Regenagri launches Farm Standard 4.0 

Raising the bar for integrity, the updated Farm Standard has been developed to deliver a credible and scalable transition to regenerative agriculture through Regenagri’s third-party certification programme.

Designed through an open consultation process to accelerate demand for regeneratively products, Regenagri’s new farm standard combines practical, on-the-ground implementation with robust data and claims integrity, building trust across supply chains and markets.

The new standard comes with support of World Food Prize Laureate and Regenagri Global Ambassador, Professor Rattan Lal, who has welcomed the update as a vital step forward for soil-centred agriculture.

Featuring key revisions to improve clarity, consistency, and ease of auditing, the newly restructured certification framework is closely aligned with international regulators and better reflects evolving expectations of regenerative agriculture.

A standard designed for today’s challenges

More than 60 years after the Green Revolution of the 1960s transformed food production, agriculture stands at another pivotal moment. Meeting the food and nutritional needs of a growing global population will require more than improved genetics, chemical inputs, and yield maximisation alone—the new agricultural transformation must be soil-centred, regenerative, inclusive and resilient.

The priority of agriculture today must be to improve nutritional quality while restoring soil health, enhance water quality, support biodiversity, and address the climate crisis. Regenerative agriculture offers a pathway to achieve these outcomes while maintaining productive and economically viable farming systems.

Built around the realities farmers face, the new Farm Standard addresses the full spectrum of regenerative outcomes – from soil health, climate resilience, and biodiversity, to livelihoods, inclusion and long-term farm viability. While strengthening data integrity, consistency, and regulatory alignment, the Standard retains its core commitment to contextualisation, adapting to diverse farming systems, geographies, and climatic conditions.

The result is a more rigorous and transparent standard, one that supports farmers in their transition, strengthens climate and environmental outcomes, and delivers higher levels of trust and integrity for all stakeholders.

Key updates to Regenagri’s Farm Standard

Launched on Thursday, July 30 following a consultation with farm partners and other stakeholders, new features of the Farm Standard 4.0 include:

1. Improved structure and categorisation of requirements

To improve clarity in auditing and implementation, requirements are now clearly classified into one of the following categories: Eligibility, Mandatory, and Continuous Improvement. The Standard has been re-organised into thematic operational sections to clarify which requirements apply in each case, along with supporting normative references. 

2. Clearer identification of minimum certification requirements

The new Standard includes explicit certification thresholds, procedures for handling non-conformities, and continuous improvement requirements throughout the certification cycle. 

3. A strengthened management system approach

The updated framework introduces new requirements for the Management Plan to include critical aspects such as soil management, nutrients management, regenerative crop production, crop protection, biodiversity & conservation, animal welfare, water management, GHG emissions, and continuous improvement.

4. Enhanced environmental and landscape management requirements

The Standard includes new requirements for:

• Regenerative hydrology;
• Waste management and reduction;
• Hydrology and innovation and technology provision.

The Standard contains updated and/or expanded requirements for:

• Water quality and wastewater management; and
• Biodiversity and High Conservation Value (HCV) protection. 

5. Stronger governance, legal compliance, and due diligence requirements

The Standard includes strengthened Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) requirements,  High Conservation Value (HCV) risk assessments, and grievance mechanisms. 

6. Clearer division of duties

Responsibilities are more clearly split between organisational requirements and auditing and certification requirements.
