Solidaridad Asia and WWF-India launch Regenagri Fast Track Cotton Initiative
With a goal of bringing regenerative farming to over 2,450,000 acres (one million hectares) of cotton farming land across India, Solidaridad Asia and WWF-India’s Regenagri Fast Track Cotton Initiative will support the country’s smallholder farmers to transition to agricultural practices that foster long-term climate resilience.
Climate change poses a great threat to India’s vast community of smallholder farmers, eroding their livelihoods and reducing crop yields, while conventional cotton farming is responsible for widespread loss of biodiversity.
Solidaridad Asia and WWF-India’s Regenagri Fast Track Cotton Initiative has been created in response to the urgent need to improve the climate resilience of smallholder farms by accelerating large-scale adoption of regenerative agriculture, using Regenagri’s Farm Standard.
Regenagri’s standards guide farmers in their transition to a regenerative farming system that helps to improve soil health, enhance biodiversity and reduce carbon footprint while improving farmer livelihoods and their farms’ climate resilience.
Regenerative Fast Track Cotton Fund
The Regenerative Fast Track Cotton Fund has a target of £5.28 million and hopes to make regenerative farming the new norm of sustainability in Indian cotton.
Franco Costantini, CEO of Regenagri says: “We celebrate Solidaridad Asia and WWF-India’s commitment to making regenerative agriculture the norm for cotton grown in India and look forward to supporting this ambitious initiative.”
“This collaboration highlights the power of cross-organisational work to provide support, assurance, and impact for all stakeholders during their collective transition to regenerative agriculture.”
