It supports farms and organisations to transition to holistic farming techniques that increase soil organic matter, encourage biodiversity, sequester CO2 and improve water and energy management. Designed for continuous improvement, Regenagri offers its partners a complete solution for measuring and reporting on regenerative progress and monetising environmentally minded farming.
The technical development of Regenagri is supported by a governance team, a group of organisations expert in all aspects of regenerative agriculture.
The Regenagri programme
Regenagri CIC implements a monitoring, evaluation and learning system to assess the effectiveness of the Regenagri programme in achieving its objectives and to measure and validate its impact.
The assessment of the effectiveness is carried out through procedures including, but not limited to, periodical review of certification bodies, review of audited data, feedback mechanisms with certified organisation and licensees, benchmarking activities with scientific sources as well as with other standards, stakeholders consultations, periodical analysis of data.
On a continuous basis Regenagri CIC monitors the uptake and the impact of the programme. This is done through data reviews, validations and data analysis.
The monitoring of impact and uptake allows Regenagri CIC to assess the achievement of its targets.
All data supporting the certification are required to be certified by certification bodies holding external accreditations (by national or global accreditation bodies).
This data verification process allows Regenagri CIC to carry out a valid and reliable analysis of the impact and uptake of its standards.
An important learning opportunity
The analysis of data constitutes an important learning opportunity to further improve the regenagri standards and approaches.
Annually, Regenagri CIC carries out a review of the monitoring, evaluation and learning system to ensure its effectiveness. Periodical impact analysis are also done to highlight areas of success, challenges to address, regional contexts; the related reports contain very valuable data for stakeholders and are intended to be share publicly.
The output from the monitoring, evaluation and learning evaluation include:
- Global and regional uptake of the Regenagri programme
- Conservation achieved
- Carbon and GHG emissions data
- Environmental impact indicators (such as soil health, water)
These will be shared publicly through the website and other public channels.
Digital Hub
The digital hub offers measurement and analytical tools to assess and report regenerative practices. It allows our partners to quantify progress over time and compare between multiple farms.
Partners can track performance against key regenerative indicators and understand how effective on-farm actions are, in order to implement a continuous improvement cycle. Historic data can also be recorded to build a clear picture of a farm’s performance over time.
Designed for high volumes of farms, the Regenagri digital hub is structured to handle groups of farms as well as individual farms.
Brands and other supply chain members can also access the digital hub to monitor the performance of the farms which are part of their regenerative projects.
Certification
Farms and farm groups (small holders included) can be certified against the Regenagri standard criteria. The certification has a three-year cycle, works with a continuous improvement approach and is applicable to food and non-food commodities, including natural fibres such as wool and cotton.
For the certification, an audit is carried out to assess practices against the Regenagri criteria. Audit results are recorded on the digital hub.
If the minimum performance criteria are met the member is awarded certification. The Regenagri certification is also available for companies within the supply chain, allowing them to claim that products come from regenerative farming.
Certification ensures farms receive the correct pricing for food and fibre produced using regenerative principles.
Certifications and verification services to the Regenagri standards shall be carried out by accredited bodies. Certification and verification bodies are accredited to standards applicable to the scope of services they provide (including, but not limited to, ISO 17065, ISO 14064, ISO 14065).
Certification bodies are approved by Regenagri CIC upon an assessment aimed at assuring, amongst other factors, that the body has the appropriate expertise, technical capabilities, management systems, and capacity to provide the services.
The certification bodies establish and maintain a Regenagri programme manual. The programme manual includes all the procedures and policies, as outlined below, to deliver the certification services as per quality, integrity and service levels requirements.
The certification bodies have a legal certification contract (within terms of validity) with Regenagri CIC.
Verification
Regenagri partners can have their carbon emissions data verified to confirm the amount of carbon reduced and or sequestered.
The verification is done under IS0 14064/5 accreditation allowing members to generate carbon credits, which provides them with an additional income stream.
Verification of emissions can also open the door to other green financing opportunities.
Advisory
As Regenagri is designed for continuous improvement, advisory support is provided throughout projects to farms, brands and supply chains.
We can advise on the development of regenerative strategies, areas of improvement, the setting of KPIs and the development of transition plans.
We also provide bespoke training and capacity building, as well as on farm monitoring and reporting of achievements.
