Regenagri launches Carbon Insetting Standard 2.0

The updated Regenagri Insetting Standard forms the foundation of the regenerative agriculture initiative’s pioneering Carbon Insetting Programme.

Launched in early 2025, Regenagri’s कार्बन इनसेटिंग कार्यक्रम builds on Regenagri’s globally-recognised certification by offering farmers and brands an additional pathway to reap the rewards of regenerative farming. The accompanying Insetting Standard sets requirements for risk assessment, integrity, quantification, and transaction of carbon insetting units through the Carbon Insetting Platform.

To date, the growing programme includes 25 insetting projects, and spans a range of supply chains over 361,000 hectares of land.

Updates to the Insetting Standard

Launched on April 7 following a consultation with farm partners and other stakeholders, new features of the Insetting Standard 2.0 include:

1. A renewed additionality pathway

The introduction of the Innovative Regenerative Practice (IRP) approach complements classical Clean Development Mechanism tests with a context-specific, agriculture-adapted additionality assessment combining qualitative and quantitative criteria.

2. Context-based selection of carbon accounting methodologies

The establishment of clear eligibility requirements within a flexible, science-based framework allows project developers to select context-appropriate methodologies, subject to validation against Regenagri requirements and independent verification.

3. Enhanced MRV procedures

Strengthened Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) requirements, including improved soil sampling protocols, stratification approaches, and uncertainty management, ensure robust and credible carbon quantification.

4. Strengthened integration of soil carbon science

Updated Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) quantification enhances integration of soil carbon science through a combination of direct measurement, modelling, and hybrid methodologies, aligned with international best practices.

How the Carbon Insetting Programme works

Through the Carbon Insetting Programme, participating farms generate third party-verified carbon insetting units by reducing the carbon footprint of their operations and products through their implementation of the Regenagri programme.

Businesses supplied by these farms may then purchase these units to offset their own Scope 3 emissions, financially rewarding farmers for futureproofing their production systems in the process.

Participating farms and companies have access to Regenagri’s Carbon Insetting Platform, which implements due diligence requirements and executes transactions. In their personalised dashboard, companies can see their carbon inventory as well as their own carbon unit transactions.
