Candiani: The first Regenagri-certified denim mill

Back in 2021, Italian denim producer Candiani became the first denim mill to be certified to Regenagri’s Chain of Custody standard. Candiani’s vision is built on the principles of sustainability, innovation and products ‘Made in Italy’.

Regenagri’s textiles Chain of Custody standards are for organisations that buy, sell, process or manufacture Regenagri-certified products. This model requires certification of all links in the supply chain, from farm to final product, to ensure full traceability.

We asked Alberto Candiani to tell us more about the importance of regenerative farming and Regenagri certification for the company.

“Candiani has been interested in regenerative farming since day one, or probably day zero, when regenerative agriculture was not even a ‘thing’ in the cotton industry. Regenagri was the first concrete programme to connect substantial dots in this field.

Regenerative farming is scalable and can provide financial sustainability to the whole supply chain. Alongside, Regenagri brings robust standards, third-party verified data and solid traceability.

“Candiani is currently transitioning towards 100% regenerative cotton sourcing, which we hope to complete in 2026. Our reduced environmental impact will be notable once compared to previous years; we look forward to publishing specific data once the transition is complete.

“As a leader in sustainable innovation in the denim industry, Candiani has proudly championed Regenagri’s expansion. This recognition has elevated the perception and the visibility of our cotton sourcing, generating stronger demand.”

Candiani partner, cotton trader ECOM, say: “With a heritage in cotton dating back to 1849, ECOM is proud to partner with Candiani and Regenagri in advancing regenerative cotton across global supply chains. As the first cotton trader certified under Regenagri’s Chain of Custody standard, we support scalable programmes that ensure traceability, credibility, and positive impact for farmers.”

“Regenerative agriculture represents more than a sourcing model – it is a systemic approach that restores and strengthens farmer resilience.

“Our collaboration has already delivered tangible results, including EU-made Regenagri-certified cotton from Spain and the USA cotton pool by sustainability-focused Quarterway Cotton Growers, supporting Candiani’s transition toward 100% regenerative sourcing. This partnership reflects ECOM’s commitment to the highest sustainability standards and our role as a supply chain enabler connecting farmers, certification systems, and manufacturers.”
